Limited restaurant table service returns after NSW relaxes COVID-19 restrictions

Updated: May 16

Premier Berejiklian has announced limited relaxation of health social restrictions from Friday 15 May 2020.

Relaxation of measures include allowing restaurants and cafes to reopen for dine in customers providing that new social distancing rules are observed, including a limit of 10 patrons at a time and observing the 4sqm rule.

The government had previously clarified the 4sqm rule as follows:

Where the 4 square metre rule applies, the size of the premises has to allow for at least 4 square metres of space per person. The rule is based on the total number of people in the space – including staff – and is limited to a maximum of 100 people gathering in the same, undivided indoor space.

Please note that the maximum number of people gathering in the same indoor space will now be limited to 10 people.

At Madame Nhu and Bar Pesta, our restaurant spaces allow us to operate within these limits. Our restaurant is highly suitable for social distancing and safe dining as it is open and alfresco.

Bar Pesta will resume dine in service on Thursday night 21 May. There will be two sitting times: 5pm-7.30pm and 7.30pm-9pm. We strongly encourage you to make a booking via this website.

Precautionary measures

In addition to our safety policy and procedure on COVID, we will implement the following additional steps:

  • A 1.5m distance between customer seatings

  • Hand sanitisers are provided for customers

  • Provide online menu

  • An option for dine in customers to choose food to be served in takeaway containers (see below for discussion).

  • Anyone with flu-like symptoms will not be allowed indoors

The use of crockery and cutlery

For dine in customers normal crockery and cutlery will be provided. Evidence provided by WHO is that "viruses are inactivated at temperatures between 60 °C and 65 °C". Our commercial dishwasher operates at temperature higher than 65 °C. In addition, the general evidence is that dishwashing detergent also kills viruses. However, we will provide the option of serving food in takeaway containers if customers indicate their preference to our staff. This policy is subject to further review down the track.

More details of our COVID-19 policy

These measures are in addition to our existing COVID-19 policy. You can read our policy on our blog.

We encourage our customers to cooperate and remain vigilant regarding social distancing rules whenever they are inside our premise, whether for dine in or takeaway pickup, to minimise risk of infections.
